Technical Artist

World Makers is a dynamic and growing game development studio based in the UK. We specialise in creating immersive gaming experiences that captivate players. Our first title - Deceit 2 - is an immersive social deduction multiplayer game that challenges players' trust. We have two new titles in the early stages of development. As we continue to expand our title portfolio, we are seeking a talented Technical Artist to join our team.

As our first dedicated Technical Artist you will collaborate closely with the art, design, and engineering teams to develop and implement pipelines, materials, visual effects, and optimisations that support the creation of high-quality game worlds.

This is a hybrid role - the successful applicant will be expected to spend two days per week on site in Cambridge.

Responsibilities

  • Author visual effects and procedural art workflows that meet design expectations, and are optimised for performance and quality.
  • Create and maintain tools and scripts that streamline the creation and implementation of art assets, animations, and visual effects.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to art asset creation, rendering, and optimisation.
  • Create complex, well-optimised materials and shaders for high value game characters, props, and environments.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in art and technology, and proactively identify opportunities for improving the visual quality and performance of our games.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in the video game industry.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard game art tools (Houdini, Substance, Blender, Maya)
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine and the art creation process, including modelling, texturing, lighting, and particle effects.
  • Proficiency programming in C++ and common shader programming languages.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently on assigned tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
