World Makers is a dynamic and growing game development studio based in the UK. We specialise in creating immersive gaming experiences that captivate players.
Our first title, Deceit 2, is an immersive social deduction multiplayer game that challenges players’ trust. As we continue to expand our title portfolio, we are seeking a talented senior Character Artist to join our team.
Joining our growing art team, you will be responsible for creating and implementing high-quality cosmetics that our players love. This role offers an exciting opportunity for creative individuals with a passion for gaming, a keen eye for digital fashion, and a solid technical foundation in character art.
This is a hybrid role—the successful applicant will be expected to spend two days per week on-site in Cambridge.
Responsibilities
• Design and create high-quality clothing items, accessories, and props for in-game characters, adhering to the established art style and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with the art and design teams to brainstorm and develop new cosmetic concepts that align with the game’s themes and player preferences.
• Generate/sketch concept art and gather mood boards to communicate ideas and inspirations effectively.
• Create detailed 3D models and textures of game-ready character models, including sculpting, UV mapping, baking, and texturing.
• Optimise assets for performance while maintaining visual fidelity, considering the constraints of various gaming platforms.
• Set up, retexture, and modify Unreal Engine Metahumans to meet project requirements.
• Develop and refine Unreal Engine character shaders, including skin, cloth, and hair materials.
• Set up character pipelines for new projects in Unreal Engine, ensuring an efficient workflow from concept to final in-game implementation.
• Iterate on designs based on feedback from internal stakeholders and playtesting sessions, ensuring a polished final product.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in character customisation and cosmetic design, incorporating innovative techniques into your workflow.
• Balance technical, gameplay, and artistic constraints and work collaboratively to reach solutions between disciplines.
Skills & Requirements
• Strong portfolio of artwork that demonstrates exceptional creativity, technical skill, and attention to detail.
• Proficient in 3D modelling and texturing software, such as Blender, Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter/Designer.
• Excellent sculpting skills with a thorough understanding of UV mapping, baking, and texturing for game-ready character models.
• Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine, including Metahumans setup, character shader creation, and pipeline development.
• Clear knowledge of PBR and optimisation techniques.
• Experience utilising online asset libraries to speed up workflows.
• Strong understanding of game development pipelines and technical requirements.
• Familiarity with character animation and rigging (a big plus).
• Experience using Marvelous Designer and ZBrush.
• Worked on at least one shipped project.
• Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
